National Remote Sensing Day 2025 Celebration and One-Day Workshop on Google Earth Engine (GEE)

The Department of Geography, MLSU, successfully organized a one-day workshop “GEE-nius in the Making: Learn Google Earth Engine Basics” on 12th August 2025 to celebrate National Remote Sensing Day 2025, marking the 106th birth anniversary of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the father of India’s space program. This was the first time our department celebrated this day, making it a special milestone. The event began with a pre-workshop session attended by faculty members, postgraduate students, and research scholars of the department where they were introduced the objectives and significance of the day. The workshop focused on the scope of Google Earth Engine (GEE) in geospatial analysis and the integration of AI tools to enhance analytical capabilities for non-programmers. The workshop was delivered in two hands-on sessions: Session 1: GEE interface, importing spatial data, visualizing satellite imagery, and creating image composites. Session 2: Computing bio-physical parameters, time-series change detection, generating dynamic charts, and exporting results. A total of 24 postgraduate students and Ph.D. scholars participated and shared their feedback, appreciating the practical exposure of GEE, conceptual learning, and AI integration. They expressed strong interest in advanced-level workshops if conducted by the department in future. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Urmi Sharma, with Dr. Rajesh Kumar Yadav serving as Co-coordinator. They also served as session experts, collaboratively delivering and facilitating the hands-on sessions of the workshop.
